finally the dudes behind the fantastic hell yeah recordings step out into the limelight on their own with their debut ep of on golf channel. and what a debut! tracks range from blissful, boogie influenced house music (adriatic bolt) to the 1992 style primal scream psychedelic chugging banger (quando) via sunny acid (quiet force) and deep emotional vocal led ambience (i don t care who you are). just as you d expect from the amazing sounds their label has put out over the years, this ep is uncategoriseable in the best possible way we look forward to hearing more from the aptly titled balearic gabba sound system, this is just an aperitivo, or is it a selection of antipasti. either way, it leaves you ready for the next course. golf channel every time!

in 1985 severed heads were asked to release a retrospective, so they dragged out bits lying around. the compilation was titled “clifford darling please don’t live in the past”, spread out into a montage over four sides of vinyl. this compilation includes live recordings, raw demos, unreleased studio recordings and solo pieces from each member of the band during from the first five years. the results are a striking hybrid of the avant-garde industrial and pop.

first time i heard this track out was d.jing with adrian gibson, booker/manager for the london jazz cafe in its hay day in the early 2000s, i thought it was some crazy obscusre early jacksons 45. i had no idea what it was but i liked it and it stuck with me. as my eyes were on 45 s at the time it passed me by until numero group reissued it on their fabulous soul messengers compilation (essential purchase if you don t own). after quite a bit of badgering rob sevier, co-owner of numero group, let this grace my format of choice, so here we are, both sides first outing as a single.

kicking off with the 12 minute epic when the going is smooth & good, which was recently used in keiran hebdens essential mix, this is a truly pioneering piece of disco/funk with a clear message in the music. dipping in and out of intricate percussion workouts and driven by bleepy synth grooves, it has an iressistable lo fi charm. followed by the uptempo this kind of world , another percussive electronic workout that begs the question have you ever seen this kind of world? . the b side sees the lp s tempo drop down a notch with the lp title track anything you sow . the lp finishes with a beautiful electronic ballad every day . this album is an exceptional piece of music, that s all killer, and you ll have never heard anything like it... it will appeal to fans of nigerian afro funk & electronic disco... don t let this fantastic album pass you by!

some more grittiness from the hard beach entertainement camp, introducing this time the one and only cuban house don toni moralez with a bold mix of unfussy, old school influences. *ny edit 1* plays the catchy 90s house vocals card while *time 2 hit da dope* pays tribute to the memphis hip-hop scene with its heavy 808 and cryptic loopy lyrics. finally, wrapping things up with a bang (and hitting 140+ bpm!) *antonio montana at a techno rave* will keep only the most daring ravers going!

an ep of golden bug on lddlm has been a long-time coming. paths crosses, encounters, similitudes. but it took all of us time to agree on how golden bug should fit into our mortal ethics of fragmentation: we don t want to sound like anybody else, each track on the ep should all sound different. the french but barcelona based producer played our game, anticipating his future and very diverse album with a spook yet catchy 12inch. wild boys was an instant ear-catcher, some proto funk with a very strong vocal by yan wagner that made it sound like duran duran on speedball. it was hard to take it to another level but lord tusk, one of our favourite producers of the emerging -no genre london scene beefs it up, kraftwerk way. its moody as we all are. ik voel je shows the more experimental spaced out side of golden bug, we d call it space rock if we had to. do not neglect l-horloge, it s slow, dark, menacing but it s a real time bomb if tuned correctly.

key vinyl don their scouting caps once again for another split ep featuring fledgling and debuting talents. first up is the plant worker. this french dj and producer isn’t exactly new to the game, but as the plant worker he’s been slowly journeying down harder, rawer trajectories—as the name may suggest. with a trio of eps out already, “iota 001” and “iota 002” continues his exploration into purer techno forms with two cuts of deep, probing, loopy floor material. then on the flip, key vinyl unveil the first works from masked newcomer transient x4. “lost in perceptions” is a jangling sic fi trip to techno’s bleak and pitch-black periphery, whilst “ways to space” sends its cosmic theme off for a spell in the basement, coming out as a monstrous peak-time send off.
